Last week it was reported that both the McGregor camp and the Mayweather team had submitted formal requests to fight in 8oz gloves instead of bowing down to the rule book and using 10oz.
Now, it has emerged, that the Nevada State Athletic Commission has voted unanimously in favour of ignoring their own rules and approving the use of 8oz gloves in the 154lbs contest.
Furthermore, the NSAC also met to discuss who the referee would be for the bout, as well as the judges.
Recently it was stated that Kenny Bayless, who has overseen Mayweather’s last 3 fights, was not to be considered due to certain comments he made in the media.
So, after deliberation, it has been confirmed that Robert Byrd will be the referee, whilst the judges will be Burt Clements, Dave Moretti and Guido Cavalleri.
McGregor had made a special request for an international judge, and the NSAC chose Guido Cavalleri from Italy.
American Robert Byrd is no stranger to being inside the ring for a Mayweather fight, as he overseen the contest between Floyd and Robert Guerrero in 2013 in which Mayweather claimed a unanimous decision victory.
Although none of the officials have any prior experience in MMA, this won’t be relevant due it being a boxing match, but Robert Byrd’s wife has been a UFC judge for many years.
